About the Artist
Mariko is an artist based in New York City.
She was born in Japan, and moved to the United States with her family when she was 14. In 2000, she graduated from Rhode Island School of Design where she received a BFA and BARCH in architecture.
In the process of nourishing her artistic sense, she has revisited and re-valued materials, medium, craft fun and games which she used to enjoy during her early childhood, in order to continue to search for what is worth expressing in her art. Being honest and true to what you believe in is the most important thing in her art making. Through such process, she picked up medium such as printmaking, collage and clay crafting.
Her inspiration comes from every corner of her daily life, at moments which captivate her curiosity or touch her soul. Therefore her art is not about concept or social criticism, but is an honest expression, her way of communicating beyond her verbal capability.
